Where to find a water catcher

Where Units Note
Outpost 1
Floating City 1 2 Deep Sea
Floating City 2 2 Deep Sea
Floating City 3 2 Deep Sea
Floating City 4 2 Deep Sea

The four floating cities belong to the Deep Sea and are not map monuments. A server shows one of them at a time unless its owner changes that.

How a water catcher works

  • It fills a little on its own in any weather, fog included, even under a roof. Rain and snow only count when it has open sky above it.
  • Rain fills it far faster than anything else. Fog comes next, then snow, and clear weather gives the least.

The one you build yourself

The version you craft and place is the Small Water Catcher, which has 200 health against 75 for the monument one.

How the monument Water Catcher works in Rust

On procedural Rust server maps, Water Catcher (75 structural rating) appears as 9 permanent world fixtures distributed across 1 land or coastal compounds plus 4 offshore floating settlements (8 waterborne units). Unlike player-built workshop furniture placed inside a private base, these public monument installations remain bolted to the map terrain across the entire wipe and can be operated by any visiting survivor without Tool Cupboard authorization.

Water Catcher monument locations, grid stages and efficiency

Monument placement tables, fuel or material conversion rates, and base-deployable comparisons above document where Water Catcher stands on every procedural map seed and how its public utility mechanics compare against player-crafted stations.

  • Map placement density (9 fixtures): Bolted into 1 land or coastal radtown layout with 8 extra placements across 4 offshore floating settlements on every procedural seed.
  • Structural hitpoints and pickup rules: Carries a fixed 75 hitpoint pool and remains permanently anchored to the monument floor without Hammer pickup.
  • Electrical grid and fuel requirements: Self-contained monument utility that operates immediately without slotting Heavy Fuses at Power Plant.
  • Base crafting and deployable comparison: Pairs with a player-craftable workbench recipe that survivors can build and place inside a Tool Cupboard base.
  • Public access and PvP considerations: Open to all players without building privilege, making surrounding sightlines, safe-zone turrets, and cycle timers critical during loot runs.
