Rust blackjack strategy charts

Three tables computed by RustPotato for the rules of Rust’s table and its 10-deck shoe. Your hand is down the side, the dealer’s card along the top.

  • H Hit
  • S Stand
  • D Double. Once you have drawn a card, hit instead.
  • P Split. If you cannot, read the total in the hard table; a pair of aces is hit.
  • * Close call: the next best move is within 1 scrap per 100 bet.

Two cards of the same value: read the pairs table. An ace that can count as 11: the soft table. Anything else: the hard table. 10 stands for any ten, jack, queen or king.

The charts go by your total. Once you hold three cards or more, the adviser at the top counts your exact cards, so on a close call it can pick the other move.

How these numbers are worked out

The Rust Blackjack Strategy calculator solves every two-card starting hand and every hit, stand, double, or split decision by walking the full shoe composition tree under the exact rules used at the Bandit Camp card table rather than relying on generic Monte Carlo approximations or land-based casino charts that ignore Rust’s whole-scrap payout rounding.

Every figure on this blackjack strategy page is worked out directly from the table rules. Each chance is a count of the cards left in a 10-deck shoe once your hand and the dealer’s card are out of it, with every draw that follows played the best way. Averages are for one player with enough scrap to double or split.

  • Ten-deck shoe composition: every expected return removes your dealt cards and the dealer upcard from the ten-deck shoe before evaluating subsequent draws and dealer bust probabilities.
  • Whole-scrap rounding: natural blackjacks pay three to two rounded down to whole scrap, which penalizes odd bet sizes that do not divide cleanly by two at the table.
  • Soft-eighteen dealer stand: the dealer hits hard sixteen and soft seventeen, standing on hard seventeen or higher and on soft eighteen through twenty-one on every deal.
  • Split-ace restriction: splitting aces deals one card to each ace with no further hits allowed, while a ten drawn onto a split ace still counts as a natural.

Reading the hard, soft, and pair strategy chart at the table

The interactive strategy chart groups every starting two-card total into hard hands without a flexible ace, soft hands with an ace counted as eleven, and splittable pairs across all ten possible dealer upcards so you can verify the highest-return move before the in-game turn timer expires at Bandit Camp or Outpost.

Selecting any cell in the strategy matrix opens the exact scrap return per hundred staked for standing, hitting, doubling down, and splitting side by side. When you draw a third or fourth card after hitting a stiff total or a soft hand, clicking your new card updates the live recommendation for the narrowed ten-deck shoe and recalculates whether standing or taking another card loses less scrap against the dealer’s upcard.

Sizing your scrap bet and avoiding odd-number rounding losses

Because the Rust blackjack machine rounds fractional three-to-two natural payouts down to whole scrap on every hand, wagering an odd number of scrap gives away half a scrap of your natural bonus on every two-card twenty-one and noticeably raises the effective house take against your stack over a full wipe session at the Bandit Camp or Outpost card terminal.

Betting even multiples of ten scrap preserves the full three-to-two natural payout while leaving enough reserve in your inventory to fund profitable double-downs on eleven or ten and pair splits on eights and aces when the dealer shows a weak bust upcard across repeated shoes during a casino run. Players comparing safe-zone gambling tables can also inspect exact house edges and session curves on the Poker Odds, Wheel Calculator, and Slot Machine Odds pages.

Questions about blackjack in Rust

Does the dealer hit on soft 17 in Rust?

The dealer at the Rust blackjack table hits on soft 17. The dealer keeps drawing until he holds a hard 17 or more, or a soft total from 18 up. An ace and a 6 is a soft 17, so he draws on it every time.

What does a blackjack pay in Rust?

A natural blackjack in Rust pays 3 to 2, rounded down to whole scrap. A bet of 100 wins 150; a bet of 5 wins 7, not 7.5. A two-card 21 made after a split is paid the same way, and against a dealer blackjack it ties and returns your bet.

Should I take insurance at Rust’s blackjack table?

Insurance costs 50% of your bet and pays 2 to 1 when the dealer’s hidden card makes a blackjack. With the ace showing that happens about 31% of the time and it takes 33% to break even, so you lose about 8% of whatever you put on it, settled separately.

Can you count cards at blackjack in Rust?

Card counting does not work at blackjack in Rust because every round is dealt from a new shoe of 10 decks, 520 cards, shuffled just before. Nothing you saw in one round says anything about the next, so the only cards worth knowing are the ones on the table right now.

What is the max bet at the blackjack table in Rust?

The maximum opening bet at the Rust blackjack table is 500 scrap on default server settings, and the smallest bet is 5. A server can set another maximum. The limit applies to your opening bet only: a double or a split each add one more full bet on top.

What happens if I run out of time at the blackjack table?

The turn timer at the Rust blackjack table gives you 30 seconds each time. Run out while betting and the game bets the minimum, 5 scrap, for you. Run out on a decision and it stands for you, on both hands after a split, while leaving your seat forfeits your stake.
