Open Core Manager
The RustPotato Open Core Manager generates one
Industrial Conveyor filter per loot room box so every Rust item category is sorted.

How the Open Core Manager splits item categories across loot boxes
The RustPotato Open Core Manager divides all 14 Rust inventory categories across your storage containers (8 boxes in the starting plan, selectable from 39 container types) so that every item category is named by one filter and one catch-all box takes the remaining categories within the 30-entry conveyor limit. Each card displays the item categories assigned to that container alongside the JSON string ready to copy and paste into an in-game Industrial Conveyor.
As your loot room grows up to 40 containers, adding or removing a box updates only the affected filters and marks which conveyors need a fresh paste since your last saved stage. You can rename any box, reassign categories between containers, save the layout to a file, or send every box filter straight into your folders on the Conveyor Filter Lists page, alongside the Upkeep Calculator and the Raid Calculator. Because an open-core loot room sits at the center of base defense and daily maintenance, you can untick any of the 14 categories in the Categories to sort drawer if you store weapons, boom, or Tool Cupboard upkeep resources in a separate bunker, rename individual boxes by wall or shelf position, save or load a portable JSON plan file to share with teammates, or send all 40 box filters straight into a dedicated folder in My lists.
- Complete category coverage: every published item category in the game catalogue belongs to exactly one primary container or the catch-all rest box.
- Two-filter expansion rule: adding a new container splits one category off the catch-all box so existing box filters stay untouched.
- Specialized container matching: adding a Fridge claims the Food category automatically, while small boxes take compact categories that fit their slot count.
- Stage diff tracking: marking your current room as pasted highlights only the new or modified JSON strings when you expand the base later.
Growing an open-core loot room from wipe starter to clan main
An open-core base layout places your primary drop-off boxes, workbenches, and industrial conveyors around an accessible central floor so teammates can dump loot at a single input chest and let the pipe network sort items into category-specific storage racks automatically.
When your group upgrades from an eight-box starter core to a sixteen-box or twenty-four-box main base, pressing Mark as pasted before adding containers tells the planner which filters are already running in game. You only copy and paste the newly added box filters plus the updated catch-all box, avoiding a full room rewire mid-wipe.
Sending open-core box filters to the Conveyor Filter Lists bench
Every container card in the Open Core Manager outputs a six-key JSON array formatted for Rust’s in-game Industrial Conveyor paste button, using whole-category filter rules so a single conveyor slot covers dozens of individual weapons, resources, or components at once.
If you want to combine category-level room sorting with item-level calibre splits, charcoal furnace lines, or locker kitbuffers, click Send to My lists to transfer your entire open-core folder into the Conveyor Filter Lists bench and check your building piece count in the Upkeep Calculator.
Questions about the plan
How does the Open Core Manager decide what goes in each box?
The Open Core Manager assigns one whole Rust inventory category at a time to each dedicated container (8 containers in the starting plan across 14 categories) and assigns the remaining categories to one catch-all container within the 30-slot Industrial Conveyor filter limit.
What changes when I add a box to my loot room?
Adding a container to your loot room plan (up to 40 containers in total) moves one category out of the catch-all container into the new container, so at most two conveyor filter strings change while every other container keeps its existing filter untouched.
Do I need an account to keep my plan?
The Open Core Manager saves your container layout, custom box names, and category choices directly in your browser storage with no user account or login required, and exports a portable JSON plan file that you can reopen later or share with a teammate.
How does an open-core loot room plan differ between a solo player and a large clan?
A solo or duo builder typically runs 4 to 8 containers where high-volume categories get their own box and 1 catch-all box holds the rest, whereas a clan scaling up to 40 containers gives all 14 categories dedicated Large Wood Boxes or Coffins.
How do you coordinate an open-core loot room with Tool Cupboard storage?
A Rust Tool Cupboard holds 24 main storage slots for Wood, Stones, Metal Fragments, and High Quality Metal plus 4 upper tool slots, so builders can either keep CAT: Resources in the main loot room or untick Resources when feeding a dedicated Tool Cupboard conveyor.
How does expanding an open-core loot room affect Tool Cupboard upkeep brackets?
Adding floor frames and triangle shelves for 8 to 40 containers raises block counts across the 4 Rust Tool Cupboard upkeep brackets, pushing daily building maintenance from the entry ten percent bracket toward the top one-third rate unless outer wings use separate cupboards.
Do server group limits and authorized Tool Cupboard players affect an open-core base?
Filter JSON strings from the Open Core Manager work identically on Solo, Duo, Trio, Quad, and clan servers, while Rust's clan upkeep tax starts past 4 authorized Tool Cupboard or code-lock players and scales daily material upkeep upward up to a triple cap.
How do garage doors, airlocks, Drop Boxes, and Vending Machines work in an open-core plan?
Builders enclose open-core storage bays behind Garage Doors or Armored Doors and airlocks while selecting from 9 container families (39 container types in all), including Drop Boxes, Vending Machines, Lockers, Fridges, Coffins, and Large Wood Boxes in the container menu.
